88200 Object and Accessory Design: The Folded Form

6cp
Undergraduate

The casting of metals and ceramics pre-dates the industrial revolution. Casting represents some of the most flexible manufacturing technologies available for the production of small objects and accessories in series. This subject, the second of four in the Object and Accessory Design sub major elective, covers various casting technologies (both metal and ceramic) as they are used in the manufacture of small artefacts. Information on specific process requirements is combined with studio classes to ensure a fully integrated design process and outcome. Students undertake research into a cast piece that they are interested in and take part in two design projects – one of which leads to the manufacture of an item by one of two specified casting processes.
