This subject critically analyses the evolution of modern design and its impact on contemporary interior design practice. The sociopolitical roots of 19th- and 20th-century design is traced, the theories of modernism examined, and the post-modern critique discussed. A series of lectures, seminars and projects familiarises students with both modern and contemporary spaces, and with the discourses that shaped those spaces.
