This subject assumes, and builds upon, a prior knowledge of interior technology. It enhances the student's understanding of building systems and details used in interior spaces. Students look at the various ways materials and systems of technology are joined and related to each other to satisfy particular design needs. By understanding the particular application of building systems and details, students gain the knowledge to appropriately design commercial interior design projects in the future. Specific studies are made of building enclosures, structural elements, HVAC systems, FF&E (furniture, fittings and equipment), material finishes, code requirements, signage and closure systems. The relationship of sustainable principles and technology is discussed within this subject.
