85600 Design Entrepreneurship: Community Change

6cp

Design is not only a commercial service industry, but a set of skills and knowledge that can bring about long-term social change. This subject explores the different ways that designers can help build the capacities of communities to sustain themselves in the future. It researches the different ways that designers have tried to be socially responsible and ways that other professions and disciplines attempt to bring about social change. The subject centres around interdisciplinary collaborations through which students identify an area of need, and then, in consultation with representatives of that context, develop innovative ways that design can make a difference.
