Undergraduate and Postgraduate

This subject introduces students to important recent developments in six major areas of American law: Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, American Indian Law, Criminal Law, Contracts, and Torts. It focuses principally on legal questions that have become unusually controversial in the United States, as well as on the underlying political, economic and social tensions from which those questions arise.

Assessment: Class attendance and participation (20 per cent) and a final exam (80 per cent)

1. Undergraduate students require a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 per cent to undertake this subject, calculated as SUM (credit points x mark)/total credit points. This requirement may be reviewed in future. If a student enrols with a WAM of lessthan 65 per cent they will be withdrawn from the subject after the last date to add subjects and so will not be able to enrol in an alternative subject that semester.
