This subject has been designed to provide students with a practical introduction to international advocacy. The subject commences by examining the nature of both public and private international law disputes. It then examines litigation in a variety of international courts and tribunals including the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, international commercial arbitration, and the World Trade Organization Dispute Panel. Included in the subject is a practical litigation exercise in which students select a forum of interest and are required to prepare both written and oral submissions on a hypothetical factual scenario. The subject is highly recommended for students undertaking either an international law or international trade law major and those students participating in international mooting competitions.
