On completion of this subject, students should have developed an understanding of: the basic legal principles underpinning the multilateral trading system; the three pillars of the multilateral trading system, namely the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, General Agreement on Trade in Services and the Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights; the dispute settlement mechanism of the World Trade Organisation; and the institutional structure and the decision-making process of the World Trade Organisation.

1. LLB students require a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 per cent to undertake this subject, calculated as SUM (credit points x mark)/total credit points. This requirement may be reviewed in future. If a student enrols with a WAM of lessthan 65 per cent they will be withdrawn from the subject after the last date to add subjects and consequently will not be able to enrol in an alternative subject in that semester.
