The aim of this subject is to introduce the issues and basic principles of software architecture, analysis and documentation; software middleware methods, strategies and applications, including object-orientated, message-orientated and event-based middleware. The objectives include project versus enterprises architecture, components and modules, viewtypes and styles, documenting variability and style, including software interfaces, behaviour, identification of stakeholders, types of communication, notations and language. Middleware is introduced from an historical perspective and organised into three main areas with a view to its theory and appropriateness of use including models, development issues and the software management of these activities.
Assessment: Class work, assignments and informal examinations.
