The current telecommunication infrastructure is increasingly dominated by wireless microwave transmission. Examples include mobile telephones, wireless local area networks, local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) Ka band low earth orbit satellites. This subject discusses and explores the various types of microwave propagation mechanisms, the passive and active microwave devices incorporated in mobile communications systems, satellite earth stations and receivers, and other communication equipment such as LMDS. The techniques involved in the design of novel antennas for wireless communications are also explored.
Assessment: To be announced by the Subject Coordinator at first meeting.
