This subject takes a global view of modern telecommunications networks. It emphasises a systems approach. On completion, students should have a working exposure to the major technologies and systems that provide 'transport' for data between the nodes of a communication and between the system and local access.

Assessment: Technical case study (20 per cent), non-technical case study (20 per cent), attendance (10 per cent) and final exam (50 per cent).
