The goal of technology and innovation management is to effectively manage the invention, design, development, production, transfer and use of technology within an organisation. This subject brings together knowledge from engineering and management disciplines. Emphasis is placed on the importance of managing the performance of the entire product and process development cycle. Topics include technological change management, assessment and evaluation of technology, technology policy development, and new product and process development. Within this framework, specific technology management tools and techniques are evaluated and applied. These include quality function deployment and voice of the customer analysis, concurrent engineering, product development portfolio management and project selection methods.
Assessment: Assignments and exercises (70 per cent), exam (30 per cent).
