This subject introduces students to programming and software testing. It presents the syntax and mechanism of the Java language and shows how to build simple software systems in Java. It covers the topics of object-oriented (OO) programming, GUI building and basic testing. Together with the following design subject, the two subjects teach basic competencies in the construction of object-oriented software in general, with specific emphasis on the Java programming language.
Assessment: Lab examination and final examination (70 per cent), assignment (14 per cent), HD project (16 per cent).
