This subject seeks to develop the necessary knowledge and skills in modern methods of mathematical programming, and further develop skills in mathematical modelling. As such, the subject seeks to prepare the student for ongoing learning. It seeks to provide skills in the technical domain, the communicative domain and the contextual domain.

This subject presents a variety of modern optimisation methods including solution methods for large-scale mathematical programming problems, interior point methods, and an introduction to some of the following areas: semi-definite programming, convex analysis, nonsmooth optimisation, mathematical programming problems with equilibrium restraints and/or multi-criteria optimisation.
