Postgraduate

This subject forms part of stage three of the Executive MBA integration systems and process subjects. The subject provides an understanding of the tools and techniques used in financing the firm. It also provides an understanding of the financial forces that influence corporate strategy providing the opportunity for participants to acquire a range of skills and expertise expected of corporate managers. The outcomes are achieved using learning strategies that foster the application of leading-edge practices to meet the business challenges arising from international forces, and technical and knowledge innovation. Due to continuous market volatility and changes in exchange rates, commodity prices and interest rates, financial risk management techniques and instruments have become an integral part of doing business, both domestically and globally. The theme of the course revolves around risk-return profiles assumed by a corporation (or an individual). In essence, the basic principle involved is risk management of funds (cash) flows. The subject seeks to provide students with a broad appreciation of the sources of funds in onshore/offshore markets for debt and equity. The subject material draws on an understanding of managerial accounting and economics provided in the prerequisite subjects.
