This course extends the basic construction techniques and introduces different media. It examines different ways of using models, from conceptual through to detailed resolution, using variations of scale and media to highlight specific aspects of the design process.

Technical content of the subject includes: the use of plastics and malleable metal sheet; casting and carving solid forms; the formation of compound curves such as tensile structures; the use of colour, stylistically and realistically, introducing the concept of colour scaling; ways of illuminating models, and using them for studies if light and shade; contours, landscape and the application of entourage; and council requirements and the use of models in the development process.
