This subject enables students to: appreciate the nature of social relationships in the school and how these affect teacher and student behaviour; understand social theories; understand how social characteristics influence the educational outcomes of certain social groups; understand the part that the socialisation process plays in shaping educational outcomes; and study the direction of social change, the implications of these for change in schools and the interaction between schools and society in this context.
