This subject is intended to investigate and improve practical decisions of teachers regarding their own teaching and their students' learning. In particular, it examines the decisions made in schools about the assessment of students' learning. In this context, emphasis is placed on the aims of student assessment, appropriate strategies, the interpretation and reporting of student achievement, and implications for subsequent action. In addition, broader issues relating to the evaluation of curriculum and teaching practice at classroom and school level are examined and a range of evaluative strategies explored. The field component of this subject has a teaching focus in block form in a regular primary school.
