This subject facilitates comparative study of the relationship between indigenous communities and social policy process in countries such as Canada, USA, Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Australia. Contemporary perspectives recognise the increased participation by indigenous communities in policy process as governments acknowledge indigenous people's rights to self-determination and self-governance. Critical analysis of past government policies in these countries heightens student awareness of international trends and diversity within the area of indigenous social policy process.
