This subject is an introduction to the nature and organisation of the Japanese language and the relationship between text and context in Japanese for teachers in the LOTE field. Students are expected to possess an appropriate level of competence in written and spoken Japanese. It makes use of a range of approaches in analysing written and spoken language and includes aspects of sociolinguistics as well as exploring the generic organisation of texts in Japanese. The subject aims to develop practical skills in the analysis of written and spoken Japanese relevant to the classroom contexts.
