This subject introduces students to reading and writing theories and their applications in teaching and learning contexts. The focus is on the social purposes of reading and writing in various situations. The subject explores skills and strategies for developing literacy and looks at the language and structure of different kinds of texts. Students are introduced to relevant methodologies for the teaching of literacy which draw on an understanding of language, text and context.
