013202 Human Resource Development in Organisations

6cp
Postgraduate
Subject coordinator: Tony Holland

The fundamentals of human resource development (HRD) are introduced as a field of organisational practice which enhances both individual and organisational performance. Foundations, concepts, key processes and positioning of HRD within the broader category of strategic planning and management are examined to understand the role of commonly used HRD practices and activities in an organisational context. This subject explores the issues and choices facing organisations in relation to the effective development of people with a central focus on the relationship between the development and effective utilisation of employees. It analyses factors which shape decisions about the strategic role of HRD in contemporary organisations and the types of policies, programs and practices which impact upon the development of people. This subject has been designed to contextualise and better inform the knowledge and work of human resource development practitioners and managers within the broader HR framework at both the strategic and operational levels.
