Overview

This course, jointly offered by the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Business, focuses on organisational strategies and planning. It provides a well-balanced selection of subjects from both advanced information technology and management, in an integrated program which is relevant to the current and future demands of the IT industry. The subjects studied relate to organisational development and research for business, state and third-sector organisations.

IT managers and IT professionals who want to develop an IT management career at a senior level benefit from this course. Graduates are able to understand how effective technology management can make a positive contribution to their organisation. IT managers who already have significant levels of experience are challenged by this course and gain new perspectives on their management behaviours and thinking.

Course aims

The course aims to:

• develop the professional skills necessary for successfully undertaking the role of manager of people, resources and processes in a variety of organisational contexts, and
• deevelop a conceptual and analytical understanding of the organisational needs from the differing perspectives of individuals and groups.

Additional admission requirements

Applicants require:

• a recognised Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline such as business or computing and a minimum of five years' professional work experience in the IT industry, plus some supervisory experience, or
• the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Management with Passes in all subjects and at least a Credit average over the entire course.

Course duration and attendance

This course is offered on a three-year, part-time basis.

Course structure

Students complete 72 credit points of study, made up of six core subjects, a research project and electives.
