Enrolment and study plans

Enrolment

Following admission, and each year thereafter, students are required to identify the set of subjects from their Study Plan (see below) that will constitute their enrolment for that year. They must also select a semester and a location, from those that are on offer, for each subject in the identified set. In addition to formally enrolling in each subject, it is necessary to register in activities (for example, lectures, tutorials, seminars). Where more than one option is on offer for a particular activity, a system of collecting preferences from students may be used before the final class allocation is made. Developments in online enrolment and program changes are being progressively introduced.

Additions and deletions can be made to an enrolment using the online interface, but only within a tightly defined time period. Failure to notify the University of intended changes in a program can result in subject failure and the incurring of financial liability.

Students should be aware that it is their responsibility to regularly check the web-based student administration service, My Student Admin, to ensure that:

  • their personal details are correct and the University is informed of any changes as they occur
  • their enrolment details are correct
  • they are registered into activities (classes), and
  • their subject enrolment is consistent with the completion rules of the course.

Enrolment information is available at the following website:

Information on leave of absence, withdrawal from a subject or entire course, and key dates is available via the Student Administration website at:

Census dates

The census date is the date on which a student's enrolment is taken to be finalised. Census dates are published on the Student Administration website. The census date is the deadline for withdrawal from subjects without incurring financial liability. HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP debts are incurred on census dates. Students must also make their up-front payments and submit their request(s) for Commonwealth assistance by the census date.

Study Plans

On admission to the University, each student is given a Study Plan. The Study Plan is a list of the subjects that must be completed in order to qualify for the course award. As well as compulsory or core subjects, the Study Plan may include lists of subjects from which a specified number of credit points must be selected. Some courses allow students to choose a specific learning pathway. A pathway may require students to choose one or more majors or sub-majors. The Study Plan is viewable on the UTS website through My Student Admin. Any choices, in the form of option selection or pathway specification, can be made online, although in some cases faculty approval is required. The point at which choices need to be made, and the extent to which choices are reversible, depends on the course.
