Overview

This course has been developed and is taught by academic staff from the Faculty of Education and the Institute for Interactive Media and Learning. It is designed to give students the capacity to enhance learning through new technologies, particularly web-based. It is suitable for a variety of professionals including learning and development practitioners, workplace trainers and school or vocational educators. Students will study and develop competence in using e-learning models, theories, technologies and design to enhance learning.

Students discover the possibilities of new technologies in learning in subjects which cater, where possible, to their workplace and educational interests. The Graduate Certificate is for students primarily interested in developing the basic competence for using e-learning in education.

Career options

Career options include employment as a professional to teach, train and develop staff using web technology in a broad range of workplaces.

Articulation

This course is part of an articulated suite of courses comprising the Graduate Certificate in e-Learning, the Graduate Diploma in e-Learning (C07096), and the Master of Arts in e-Learning (C04188). The first four subjects of this suite constitute the Graduate Certificate in e-Learning.

Additional admission requirements

Students require computer and Internet access. While shared computing facilities are available on campus, students are advised to arrange their own access to the Internet.

Additional assumed knowledge

Standard computing skills including knowledge of word processing, email and web browsers.

Course duration and attendance

The Graduate Certificate in e-Learning is normally completed in one year of part-time study. Normally there is no mid-year intake for this course, but students interested in enrolling are advised to check with the Faculty in case circumstances change.

The course is offered in mixed mode. Most coursework is completed online, but work in these subjects is supported by two to three compulsory weekend block workshops per semester.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate in e-Learning totals 24 credit points and consists of four e-Learning subjects, offered in two pairs.
