This course is not offered to local students. Subjects are offered in regular UTS semesters - Autumn and Spring. A minimum of two subjects are offered each semester.
The Master of Arts in English Language Teaching is a qualification designed to meet the needs of school teachers of English in Japan. The course is similar in structure and content to the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (C04180) but comprises distance materials specifically designed for the Japanese context.
The course aims to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required of English language teachers in Japan, and increase the quality of English language teaching in Japan by meeting the needs of teachers and students.
Entry requirements are: an undergraduate degree; recognised teaching qualifications; at least two years' teaching experience in the Japanese school context; and TOEFL 575 with TWE 4.5 (paper based), 231 (computer based) with essay writing 4.5 or IELTS 6.5 with a 6.5 in Writing (for direct entry without the Postgraduate Certificate), less than 2 years ago. Students who have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching (C11172) can gain direct entry to this course and only need complete a further four subjects.
The course duration is one or two years, depending on work and other commitments. The subjects are offered in distance mode.
Students must complete two 6-credit-point core subjects and six 6-credit-point elective subjects, totalling 48 credit points of study, to qualify for the Master of Arts in English Language Teaching. A list of elective subjects is given in CBK90311.
