Overview

This course has been collaboratively developed and is jointly taught by academic staff from the Faculty of Education and the Institute for Interactive Media and Learning. It is designed to provide students with the capacity to enhance learning through new technologies, particularly web-based. It is suitable for professionals from a variety of areas including learning and development practitioners, workplace trainers and school or vocational educators. Students study e-learning models, theories, technologies and design, with electives in the areas of digital media, graphics, imagery and information.

Through this course, students discover the possibilities of new technologies for innovative learning. The course gives students the opportunity to undertake an in-depth e-learning research and development project relevant to their professional practice.

Course aims

Students of this course develop their understanding of the structures, functions and dynamics of a variety of e-learning systems, both locally and internationally, and become familiar, as learners, designers and teachers, with a range of e-learning environments in different disciplines, designed for different educational purposes and with different underlying values.

Career options

Career options include employment as a professional to teach, train and develop staff using web technology in a broad range of workplaces.

Articulation

This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in e-Learning (C11171), the Graduate Diploma in e-Learning (C07096), the Master of Arts in e-Learning.

The four core e-Learning subjects constitute the Graduate Certificate in e-Learning.

Additional admission requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree may be able to apply for special entry into the Graduate Certificate in e-Learning, provided they have workplace experience that is equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

While shared computing facilities are available on campus, students are strongly advised to arrange their own access to the Internet.

Additional assumed knowledge

Standard computing skills including knowledge of word processing, email and web browsers.

Course duration and attendance

The Master of Arts in e-Learning is normally completed in two years of part-time study, or one year of full-time study.

The course is offered in mixed mode. Most coursework is completed online but work in these subjects is supported by two to three compulsory weekend block workshops per semester.

Course structure

The Master of Arts in e-Learning totals 48 credit points of study, made up of four 6-credit-point core subjects, two 6-credit-point elective subjects (to be chosen from CBK90310) and one 12-credit-point research and development project.
