Higher research degrees provide an opportunity for graduates who want to make a major contribution to knowledge by undertaking advanced-level research through the exploration of ideas and issues in a thesis. The Faculty offers a Doctor of Philosophy (C02028), a Doctor of Juridical Science (C02027) – the 'professional' Doctorate – and a Master of Laws (Thesis) (C03024). These degrees are particularly valuable for persons wishing to pursue a career in research or academia. Entry into these degrees is on the basis of proven research achievement.

Research degree management is coordinated by the Faculty's Graduate Studies Committee which has delegated authority from the Faculty of Law Board for recommendations relating to the admission, progression and examination of research degree candidates, together with the development of policies and practices across the Faculty to assist candidates and enhance outcomes.

University Graduate School

The University Graduate School (UGS) provides a focus for higher degree research students in all research courses at UTS. More broadly, the UGS takes the lead in developing policy for graduate research studies in partnership with the faculties. It works to enhance the quality of graduate research programs by monitoring quality and supporting research degree students and their supervisors.
