Most universities levy service fees whereby all students share in supporting the range of services and facilities provided by the university. UTS has compulsory charges, i.e. student service fees, which contribute towards the provision of services and facilities for students studying at UTS.
The UTS compulsory student service fees are made up of:
Payment of student service fees is compulsory for all students studying at UTS. Some students may not be required to pay all or part of one or more of the student service fee components if they meet certain criteria.
Details of current exemption categories and the qualifying criteria can be found in the UTS: Calendar and through the Student Administration website. An application for exemption under the specified criteria may be made on the Application for Service Fees Exemption form. In some cases the application requires faculty endorsement, and most applications need to be supported by appropriate documentation.
To apply for an exemption, students must complete the Application for Service Fees Exemption form before the census date. This form is available from the UTS Student Info & Admin Centre at City and Kuring-gai campuses and can be downloaded from:

At UTS, local (domestic) undergraduate students are known as Commonwealth supported students. There are also Commonwealth supported students in designated postgraduate courses. Commonwealth supported students pay student contribution amounts for their subjects (units of study). Local (domestic) students are not required to pay fees for any UTS undergraduate course.
A funding cluster is a grouping of subjects by discipline. The amount a student pays for a subject is determined by the funding cluster to which it belongs.
A subject's EFTSL (Effective Full-time Student Load) is calculated by dividing the credit-point value of the subject by the full-time load. A full-time load at UTS is 48 credit points, which is equal to 1.000 EFTSL.
Details of subject contributions for Commonwealth supported students, funding clusters and subject EFTSLs are provided in individual subject descriptions and can be searched online at:

Research degrees are offered on a sponsored, scholarship, or full fee-paying basis. Research students who qualify for a Research Training Scheme Place are exempt from postgraduate course fees. Students who have not paid all due fees and charges by the published final date for payment may have their enrolment in a course cancelled. Students will not receive examination results, be able to change their enrolment program, or graduate. Students who wish to recommence their studies must apply through the formal admissions process. Readmission is not guaranteed.
Students may incur other costs while studying at UTS. These may include books, printed sets of reading materials, photocopying, equipment hire, the purchase of computer software and hardware, and Internet services.
Some subjects may incur an additional cost where travel away from the University is involved.
