This major was introduced in 2002. It allows students to combine fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering systems with the ability to exploit advanced electronics and information technology to embed intelligence in mechanical systems. Current examples of such systems are engine electronic control, automated manufacturing systems, robotics systems, micromachines and biomedical instrumentation systems.
